Waitby School

The luxury Eden Valley cottage near the Lakes and Dales

Autumn is here

Well, here we are at Waitby School, it’s the last day of summer and although the days have been warm, the nights are starting to draw in and we are getting bursts of much-needed rain.

Waitby's garden as Autumn approaches

We had a red squirrel visit the garden yesterday; I spotted him (or her) on the woodstore roof, then it ran along the drystone wall garden perimeter, pausing to pose for photos on the outer corner, before scurrying off on its errands. It was a truly uplifting sight to see this beautiful creature treating the garden as its own!

We did a short walk from the schoolhouse and came across these gorgeous reprobates.

Later that same night we admired the moon rising over the fells, and enjoyed some sky gazing, glimpsing a multitude of stars between the scudding night clouds. We are lucky to have dark skies at Waitby and the stargazing is truly fantastic – see the photos below (with thanks to Rodrigo for his star picture taken from bedroom three).

In between the swaying trees, which are enjoying their last burst of energy before their leaves drop, we glimpsed swooping bats circling the house. No owls hooting yet, but that’s something to look forward to as the nights get longer. It’ll soon be time to fire up the woodburning stove and snuggle in the living room.

Autumn is a great time to visit.
